If you stopped swaddling...

When and how?  The 4 month sleep regression has started in our house, and I noticed DD fighting the Miracle Blanket tonight.  That has never happened before so I think our swaddling days might be numbered.  I want to wait until the weekend to try her without it, but I will take all of the advice I can get about the best way to wean.

Re: If you stopped swaddling...

  • My son was busting out of swaddling at about a month old. We just put him in warm sleepers when it is cold.?

  • We broke swaddle cold-turkey about two weeks ago.  The first three nights were hell, the fourth was merely awful, and the fifth was back to normal (waking up once or twice a night).

Swaddle their lower half- they are used to the security.  I only had to do this for a week, then moved to sleep sacks with no problem.

Hold DC until they are REALLY asleep.  5 minutes longer than you think you need to.  Then put down.  If my DS isn't totally asleep, he is awake 30 mintues later and there's no easy way to get him back to sleep.

Be patient and keep it up- good luck!

  • We stopped around 5 months when DD started teething, since she couldn't sleep through the gum pain anyway.
  • Same happened with my DS a few weeks ago. One night DS kept breaking out and waking himself (and me) up so finally just re-swaddled him with his arms out. He slept fine. I did that for a few nights and then switched to a sleepsak. Its kind of nice actually, DS will fuss on the monitor and then I can hear him sucking on his fingers/thumb for comfort.

  • We've started very slowly...the last few night swaddled with one arm out...not so bad...going to try both arms out tomorrow night...

  • i just did this two weeks ago. she would ONLY sleep tightly swaddled and i was soooooooo nervous to put her to bed without being swaddled. i started just with her daily naps and i wrapped her lower half. she did well with the naps after two days, so i started it at night. she was totally fine the very first night. i was shocked! good luck... it's not that bad.
  • We broke it cold turkey at 3 months because he started breaking out of it. We tried just swaddling one arm out first and that night I came in and he had both arms AND legs out of the MB. Needless to stay, we stopped and he was fine the next night.

  • When DD started breaking out of the miracle blanket, we figured she didn't want it anymore, and so stopped cold turkey, and she had zero issues. ?Slept just as she had been -- I guess she really didn't want it anymore!
