I just heard yesterday that they have a spot for DD1 in the full-day kindy program, and am in the process of enrollment paperwork that should be finished today!
This is the same school she goes to now for preschool, but it's not our home school; so we had to go through the choice enrollment progress. It went surprisingly fast and was mostly painless (except for anxiety!); and she's got a spot, even though we were told that choice can be iffy for kids with IEPs b/c schools don't want to overcommit their resources.
Whew. We won't know until her March IEP meeting if she'll access the school's ASD lab this year; I suspect not, but I'd be surprised if we make it through elementary without needing it for additional social support. They use the Michele Garcia Winner curriculum and I'm happy that will be available to her and her teachers as needed.
They have a significant ASD population b/c of the lab, although they also have more than a dozen high-functioning kids who don't access it at all. So the teachers and staff in general are familiar with a lot of different presentations of ASD, and I think having that environment is going to be really good for her. And for us as a family, really.
I'm really glad that this decision is over and I think we're headed to the right place.
Re: Got into our choice school with an ASD lab. :)
How exciting!
I wish there was a school like that for DS where I live.
