Somebody Stop Me

I just realized that I have spent close to 300 on clothes for the little one and they are mostly 03 months. We are team green to the outside world we know the sex and are not sharing and have not had our baby shower yet. I realize I have gone way overboard and there were better ways to spend that money. I'm just worried now that the baby is going to have a huge wardrobe for a couple months and then have nothing to wear after that.

Re: Somebody Stop Me

  • I haven't been allowed to buy anything else yet and baby clothes are easy to hide.
  • Loading the player...
  • Save receipts!  As much fun as buying clothes is, you will probably get SOOOO many clothes at baby showers, that you will be swimming in 0-3 month sizes... I saved receipts, and was able to get the same things, only a size up sometimes when I got duplicates, or too many things in one size.

  • that's definitely what's going to happen. maybe you can return some of the clothes you like less than others in exchange for larger sizes? We got SO many outfits for our shower (and I went shopping CRAZY, too... I couldn't resist every cute little outfit I came across!) that most of them went unworn and still 3 years later have tags on them! Most people bought 0-3 months and she grew so much faster than we could rotate them through, even with multiple wardrobe changes in a day.

  • You can always donate / consign if you don't use them.

  • Keep the tags on and the receipts and you can return/exchange some later. I just washed onesies, some pants, and sleepers and hung up the rest.

  • Since you aren't telling the world what sex the baby is, you probably won't get many clothes at the shower, people like to buy "gender specific" clothing, in my experience. I would definitely agree to save your receipts and DO NOT remove any tags or wash anything until baby is actually ready to wear them!

With my twins, we had so many clothes that they grew out of before I could even take the tags off. You just never know what size your baby will be when! Sometimes you have a little pumpkin and sometimes a chunky monkey! ;)

  • Good to know. Unfortunately most of what I bought is off of Zulily, Boden clearance, and from consignment stores so I probably can't return.
  • Just make sure you keep a lot of the tags on and you're buying from places with good return policies. That way if you realize after they are here that you really don't need that much of that size you can return some of it. I've found that most people buy you nb-6mo so if you need to you can exchange some of those clothes for bigger sizes if necessary.

  • I bought a ton of clothes from zulily too, so I've had to ban myself from there for now. I had a fairly small shower and ended up with only a few more outfits all in different sizes. So for me it wasn't a big deal. If you know any other pregnant ladies you can always gift some of the clothes at a baby shower.

  • well, I guess what you could do would be tags on the clothes you receive as gifts and only untag them if you choose to use them as your LO grows. The remaining ones left over you could exchange for store credit to get other necessities.
