How do you get the poop stains out?

Is there some secret to getting poop stains out of baby's clothes? Maybe I'm a laundry dummy but when DD has a blowout, I can't get the stains out of her sleepers and onesies. I keep hearing that BF poop is "water soluble" which I thought meant that it would be easy to get out. I'm using Shout on the stains and washing with Tide Free. I was hoping to start CDing next week but now I don't know.

What are you using to get the stains out?

  • I spray Shout on her clothes for poop and spit up. Works so far...
  • I should add that I spray it as soon as it happens not after it has dried.
  • Oxyclean has worked on anything either of our girls have ever had on their clothes - formula, poop, etc.  If it's a really tough one, I'll spray on the oxyclean, then follow it with shout gel.  On top of that, I put a scoop of powdered oxyclean in every load of their clothes... just for good measure, in case I missed something.
  • I've been using the Dreft spray and it's always worked for me.
  • I immediately prewash them.  I run them under cold water and just use some mild soap.  Then off in the wash they go.
  • Good question!  I've had to throw so many onesies away because her poop stains will not come out unless I wash them right away.

  • ditto pp...I pre-wash and soak them in Dreft...then usually wash them with Dreft, Tide and add a bit of OxyClean into the wash.

?I also add some vinegar to get the wierd smell out...?

  • Oxiclean is just hydrogen peroxide, you can try some of that.  Dont' know if it works on clothes, luckily we never have blow outs because of cloth diapers, but I put my cloth diapers in the sun for a few hours and it gets rid of all the poop stains.

  • Rinse off the offending matter (poop), pre-treatment with Dreft stain spray.  I use Dreft detergent add the Oxyclean and I have had no trouble with anything so far.  You can't let it sit though...you have to get it right into the wash.

  • I absolutely swear by ZOUT!!!!!!!! ?
  • once you wash it hang it in the sun to dry (aka sunning)

  • I rinse the clothes out, put them in the washer then scrub them with just plain tide laundry detergent ( i use a nail brush) and then pop them back in the wash. I ruined so many cute onesies trying out all kinds of crazy concoctions, but in the end tide did the trick.  I also tried tide sticks and stuff like that, but just plain detergent works best.
  • I swear by Zout too.  It is amazing stuff.  I also add a scoop of oxyclean to each load of laundry for the spit-up stains.
