formula question

How long do you let a formula bottle sit out before you throw it away? I mean before LO starts eating. What about once you've warmed it up, before LO starts eating?

  • I mean out on the counter or in the diaper bag. Not refridgerated.

  • I have heard/read only an hour then you have to toss it.

  • Also, if you mix formula and refrigerate you can keep it in the refrigerator for 24 hours then you have to toss it.

  • I toss after one hour. I use premixed liquid formula. Once I open the container if I put it directly in the fridge it says its good for up to 48 hours. I toss after 24 hours just in case.....Once its out of the fridge or fresh into a bottle one hour and toss.

  • Wow I suck at parenting. LOL. at home, it never sits more than 20 or 30 min because I don't fix it till she needs it. Out though? Yeah it can be in the diaper bag for a couple hours. I poured one 45 minutes ago that won't get used for an hour. When I do that though, it is always still at least chilly when I give it to her. Never room temp. During the summer I will be more cautious I think. We use ready to feed formula too. I have an insulated bottle bag that I use when we will be gone long enough to need more than one bottle. In that I will leave them for 4 hours and not think twice. That sucker keeps them cold forever!

  • I use powder formula and mix it with room temperature water. Ill let it sit out for an hour, maybe an extra 15 min, whether it touches her lips or not, I usually stick to te one hour.

are you against powder formula? Or does your baby just not tolerate it? it might be easier for the diaper bag since then you can just put water in the bottle and leave it and then mix formula when you are ready to feed. I have a formula container and i always have 2 or 3 premeasured ready for water.

she hates it. I keep packets in there for emergencies, but she will fight the bottle something fierce if its powder formula. Stubborn punkface anyway. LOL

  • I usually leave it out for 1hr, 1.5hrs max. And I usually leave the formula I made in the fridge for 24hrs.
