Anyone been exposed to whooping cough?

So DD's part time sitter has just been diagnosed with whooping cough. She started with what they thought was bronchitis back in November and are just now thinking that it might be whooping cough.

She only watches my 2 1/2 yr old 1sometimes 2 days a week. And though I am concerned (more so about myself because I am 8 months pregnant!), I feel like if she were going to get it she probably would have gotten it by now, don't you think? She has been vaccinated, but I believe the vaccinations for whooping cough are complete for children until age 4.

Has anyone else dealt with whooping cough and if so how were you treated and/or those that were expose were they treated?

I'm a pretty laid back person so I'm not freaking out, but also don?t want to expose my daughter and get her sick. I am trying to figure out if I should look for back up care for a few weeks etc weeks.

WWYD?

Look out baby #3 is on his/her way!

Re: Anyone been exposed to whooping cough?

  • My DD caught whooping cough when she was 7 months old from DH who caught it from his students! I didn't catch it since I was vaccinated while after I gave birth.

DH felt AWFUL...thought he was dieing...DD just coughed & coughed & coughed but seemed to feel fine.

I do remember the dr telling us that after being exposed, it takes roughly 2 weeks to actually show symptoms of whooping cough

They were both prescribed a heavy dose of antibiotics for probably 2 weeks.

If it were me, I would get another siter for the time being...

  • I'm not sure about symptoms or anything but after I had DS 2 yrs ago the nurses vaccinated anyone who might watch DS. So my mom, mil, dad, fil, dh, a good friend and I all got vaccinated. It didn't cost anything. I would definitely look into getting everyone vaccinated.
