We're expecting twins and the average twins are born at 5 lbs. - sometimes bigger, but often smaller too. We're doing GMD Prefolds and Bummis & Thirsties covers at first. We're ordering orange and yellow edges, but I'm debating having some preemie sized ones on hand as well. The yellows say they start at 6 lbs. DId any of you moms have twins or were you expecting small babies? Did you prepare to take home a 5 pounder or smaller by having XS dipes on hand? How many?

Re: Expecting small babies? Preemie dipes?
I have been CDing twins since they came hone from the hospital 1 1/2 weeks ago at 37weeks, 4#11oz/5#8oz. i am still working on what works, but while the fmd preemie prefolds fit well, they are saturated at every changing. the nb ones are bulky but a lot more absorbent.
This. I also found having some aios on hand was awesome for helpers and really sleep deprived dads those first few weeks with twins :
Yes - I found the Thirsties XS to be cut really wide. My singleton was a pretty average birth weight (7.5) and this cover was huge on her the first couple of weeks. Proraps newborn were what we ended up using the most.
If you're wanting to order from GMD, check out her comments on covers. They are quite exhaustive. I think she mentions that other teeny covers she carries are the Bummis Original newborn and the Litewrap preemie.
My LO was 5lbs 11oz at birth and 5lbs 4oz when we brought him home. I've found GMD workhorse fitteds and prefolds (newborn) work great. I also like Lil Joey's and Kissaluvs.
I also have BG newborn and swaddlebees simplex but they don't fit yet.
