Has anyone had their cat jump in the baby's crib? Outside of always keeping the door to the room closed, how did you get the cat to stop jumping in the crib? I'm starting to wonder if the cat would smother the baby...
The cats we had before dd and ds was born and the cats we have now, both jumped into the crib to investigate it as a new object in their home. After that the cats wanted nothing to do with the crib so it was a non-issue for us.

Lay foil on the crib mattress, all over it. It will scare the bejeepers out of kitty and teach him not to jump in. We've done this with both our Pack n Play and crib and the kitties stay out.
I don't have a cat but I've read that putting aluminum foil or packing tape (sticky side up) in the crib, car seat or anything else a pet is getting into will discourage them from hanging out there.
Cats are surprisingly careful with LOs if they associate with them at all, but it can never hurt to be careful. I trusted my cat with my first two kids, but she's gotten a little... odd in her old age and I'm taking precautions this time.
There's no guarantee to keep them out, short of keeping the door closed. I did the aluminum foil trick with our newly set up crib. My cat jumped in it once, hasn't tried again (foil is still there). I'm not convinced that'll stop her once the baby's here. She LOVES little things and has helped raise everything baby that's passed through here (human or animal). So, the plan is to close the door whenever the baby is sleeping there and try spreading a receiving blanket in the crib when not in use in case she lays in there when its empty (so I can pick up the fur-covered thing and lay the baby on a clean sheet).
We had three cats when DDs were babies and while one in particular loved baby gear (I think I have pictures of her in almost every bouncer, stroller, etc we have), if there was an actual baby there, they stayed away. Cats are pretty smart and the two we have left pretty much still stay away from DDs.

they have little alarm like systems and skat mats that you can put either in the crib or by the door that will scare the kitty away to know not to go in there. Also, if want to allow the cat in there but not in the crib they have a netting type thing that can go over the crib that will keep him out.

We used the crib tent with DS1 but recently found that it had been recalled and the company shut down. So I would have to say avoid the crib net. Our cats were interested in the crib and PNP bassinet until we brought DS1 home. Once you put the tiny, wiggly, screaming thing in it they lose interest and want to avoid the baby. We used foil in the bassinet attachment at first to keep them out but like I said, once the baby showed up they didn't want to be near him. My cat loves the glider and the changing table for curl up spots so like a PP mentioned; I keep blankets on them so when I want to use them I can remove the cat hair blankie and it's fine. My DH's cats checked out the baby for the first 5 minutes he was home and have been running from him for the past 2 years. I'm pretty sure when we bring home DS2 the cats are going to ask for a new home LOL My cat just likes to keep an eye on him at all times; my little mommy helper.

We actually crate our cat at night... much like you'd do with a dog. My cat has absolutely no problem with it. In fact, he's weird and sleeps in there during the day with the door open. It's like his little cave. I just started him in it a month ago when he wouldn't leave the pack n' play newborn napper alone. I just added a comfy blanket and a bunch of catnip. Now I tell him "bedtime Oz" and he goes into the walk-in closet where we keep it... I shut the door and turn off the light for extra quiet for him. I always have to give him a little push to walk in because of course, cats like it to be THEIR idea... so he'll give a little meow about it but he's cool all through the night. I think foil sounds like a great idea but I'm just a little worried since he sleeps on me all the time that he'll try it with the baby. Even if he doesn't, I'll be awake ALL NIGHT worrying about it.

Good Luck!

Tin Foil works like a charm. The only thing my cats love is the carseat, they think it is the BEST nap spot.
