Has anyone ever had any thyroid issues prior to having LO and it caused problems TTC? I have a family member who just found out has a benign mass on her thyroid, and has had two recent losses. Just wondering if maybe the two could be related.
ETA: I googled it and it can be related, guess I am looking for people who dealt with it and had fertility success.
Re: thyroid issues
After my sister had my nephew her thyroid condition went crazy and was uncontrolled but she was unaware and she did suffer a miscarriage during that time.
Your friends losses very well could have been due to her thyroid, however I am not a doctor so don't quote me on that. I am just going off of what I have been personally told from doctors.
I've had 2 friends with thyroid issues.
1 - was told by her doctor it could cause problems TTC and if she wanted to have a baby, she should get off BC as soon as possible to give her body time to regulate. She got pregnant first month, and then again while on the pill, and then again while on the pill and breastfeeding.
2 - Had fertility issues and ended up having to conceive through IUI, but as far as I know they weren't related to her thyroid - (I'm sure I'll get a text in a few minutes correcting me ;-)) because her diagnosis was unexplained fertility issues.
Neither had issues with miscarriages though.
I have Grave's Disease which is hyperthyroidism. I developed it when I got pregnant with my DD. My levels were so off I had a 50/50 chance of miscarrying her. It was an intense few weeks of my levels being up and down, but clearly my DD is fine and healthy. I conceived my DS very quickly (1st month trying) but I had to notify my endocrinologist as soon as I got my BFP to get my meds changed to a safe one. If my levels were off I probably would have had issues TTC.
I have a very under controlled thyroid. Nothing is working to get my levels down. I'm having surgery next week to get it removed. If I were TTC right now, I most likely wouldn't get pregnant or would miscarry. Thyroids have a lot to do with TTC, its most commonly one of the 1st things checked if a couple is having trouble TTC.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (type of hypothyroidism) about 8 yeasrs ago. Even though it was well controlled on meds, I still had (& am still having with TTC#2) extreme difficulty. For DD, we tried just meds, meds + IUIs & then IVF to finally have her. I was really lucky the IVF worked because even through I produced a ton of eggs during the cycle, my thyoid issue caused 99% of them to be crappy.
