XP: Problems with Frozen Milk

I am having problems with my LO and frozen milk. He will drink frozen milk if I freeze it on a Friday and thaw it on Sunday. Yesterday I tried milk from a week earlier. It smelled fine when it was thawed, but when my husband tried to give it to LO today he refused it. My husband smelt and said that it smelled sour. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • I've read that you should use frozen BM within 24 hours of thawing... maybe this was the issue?

  • I no longer BF, but I have had issues with this....you could have a problem with excess Lipase. If the milk smells or tastes a bit soapy, than this could be an indicator that Lipase is the problem. You might have to scald the milk prior to freezing, which should solve the problem. Just google excess Lipase or look it up on Kellymom and see if this might be your issue. Good luck!
