I posted this in FFFC, but it was at the end of the post. I can't tell if my kid is teething or not. I ask him to show me his teeth so he opens his mouth and then promptly bites down on my finger.
I have NO idea how anyone can tell if their kid is teething. Basically when Edison has nights where he wakes up more than usual I assume it's teething, so we give him advil before bed. We don't give him any during the day and we usually just give it to him before bed.
Tonight I'm going to try tylenol because I don't want him to have an upset stomach since he's gotten it for over a week straight, but his sleeping is horrible and either DH or I end up on the floor of his room for part of the night.
On a completely other note he's still drinking bottles in the middle of the night and I can't tell if he's just thirsty or he wants the bottle! (Oh, and he's only 20lbs)
Half of my time with him consists of trying to "figure him out". I so badly wanted to be a laid back mother.
Re: Teething
I can tell LBB is teething because if he's not, he doesn't wake up at night! For us, that's the first sign. The next sign is that his poop output increases a ridiculous amount (as in 9-10 times a day). When those things happen, we look in his mouth and 100% of the time can see a tooth poking through.
If you're having difficulty checking the mouth, we find the easiest way is to play the "upside down" game. Either in front of the other parent or the mirror we hold LBB in an upside down position. He opens his mouth and starts laughing and you get a great view of any incoming teeth.
On your completely other note - does Edison have any kind of a cough right now? A couple weeks back LBB was waking up and sucking me dry and then asking for water. When I mentioned it at the 15 month visit the doctor thought it was from the coughing/postnasal drip/cold thing he had going on.
Thanks Girls...
Blu - he does have a dry cough that I hear maybe once a day for the past week. Not much more than that. I think our house is so dry though that he's thirsty.
Pretty sure he's teething because the amount of drool and the bad nights, but bad nights in our house are so normal! He had a week where he started only waking up once a night, so I thought we were getting better and now we're back to where we aren't.
