Does anyone have a link to a good Couch to 5k (or something similar) program they've done? I need to get my fat a$$ off the "couch". Links would be awesome, if possible.
I did really well until I got sick and took a week off. I've been trying to get back on track for several months now (my bad not the programs). I finally got mostly to where I was before over the weekend.
At this point what should have been a 9ish week program I've been working on since August. O-well, at least I'm doing something. My goal is to be able to complete (run/walk) a 5k this spring.
Zombes, Run! is super fun. www.zombiesrungame.com. It's like a story book on tape thing that plays in between songs on your playlist, so you get addicted to the story and want to run more to find out more about the characters, mission, etc. You can set it to track your distance, speed, etc. You can also enable a feaure that sends moaning hoardes of zombies at you, and then you have to pick up the pace by 30% to evade them!
I had some friends that did couch to 5k and I did it with them a few times, but honestly it seems really heavy onthe walking, not so much running, especially starting out. If you're new to any kind of exercise this is probably okay, but if you have a basic level of fitness already you may find it too boring/slow.
I'm doing this right now. I'm just starting week two and it's easy enough but I have shin splints and need to do some physio. It starts off really easy, and looks like it progresses too fast, but you'll be surprised how quickly you'll progress. I did something like this about 5 years ago, but haven't run since.

Re: Couch to 5k
This is the program I did last summer. It really starts off slow and worked well for me.

I am a "graduate" of this program and have run three 5Ks since then. And I was horribly out of shape to begin with; I had never run before.
I think you'll enjoy seeing the progress you make each week. Good luck!
I have an app on my iphone, called 5k Runner. I really like it. It tells you when to run and walk. Its by Clear Sky Apps.
