? for BFing moms

When you nurse your LO during the day, does he/she fall asleep at the end of the session, or is he/she wide awake?

At almost all of our daytime nursing sessions, when DS is finished, he unlatches and then rolls onto his back and looks at me.  He seems content to me but now I wonder if he is still hungry?  (I only nurse 1 side per feed b/c of oversupply).  Only at night feedings he will be fast asleep at the end.

Re: ? for BFing moms

  • She stays awake unless she's overtired and it's past nap time. If I break her latch before she's ready, my LO will let me know she's not done by whimpering. If he's breaking latch on his own and seems fine with that and weight gain has been good, bets are he's filling up just fine.

  • She stays awake unless it is near a naptime... She's more social after feeding nowadays and tries to look about while nursing too.

  • it used to be that nap time always followed a feeding.  DS would just nurse to sleep.  He was on a pattern of nurse to sleep, sleep, wake, nurse to sleep, sleep, wake etc...repeat

Now, it seems like feeding just fills his tank and gets him ready to play more!  He's also only taking 3 naps per day, as opposed to pretty much sleeping the entire day.  Although he generally falls asleep on my boob, its only bc I let him nurse when hes not eating, but as soon as I unlatch him, he wakes right up.

This. Unless I'm nursing him to sleep and it's time for a nap, he almost always stays awake and rolls off and smiles at me.

  • Pretty much exactly the same as you! He's awake during the day, because I feed him when he wakes up from naps. I nurse him to sleep and he passes out after that, and also falls asleep after any night nursing session. It sounds like your LO's reaction is exactly the reaction of a well fed, content baby.

  • I nurse him when he wakes so he is usually ready to play.  He may dose while eating if he took a short nap. But is up and awake after that. No need to worry if he is happy, content, and gaining weight.

  • I think things may be changing w the 3mo growth spurt. He use to always fall asleep while nursing but now he's staying awake after more and more. Starting to get back on a sleep schedule thank goodness.
