Need picky eater meal ideas.

I'm desperate! DD is a horribly picky eater. She does ok with snacks but I'm out of ideas for mealtimes. The list of things she will eat is far shorter than the list of things she won't eat. Have any suggestions?

Re: Need picky eater meal ideas.

  • I feel ya- our 27 month old is so picky to- these are my go to meals and even sometimes she wont eat these- I wont tell you snacks since you said you are okay with that:

    muti -grain pancakes

grilled cheese- sometimes we try and sneak a spinach leave in there

    cheese quesedillas (sp)

PB & J on whole wheat bread

Chicken fingers and tator tots and apple sauce

    Pizza

spegetti with at little bit of butter and grated cheese- and she wont eat veggies so I use puried baby veggies as a sauce instead of spegetti sauce

wheat toast or whole wheat english muffins

if she is really being picky I do a buffet style dinner of like cottage cheese, fresh bread with peanut butter, strawberries/blackberries, crasins.

She loves chick filet chicken nuggets and cole slaw.

    Eggplant Parm

She actually ate fish filets the other night and I was shocked!

    Good luck- its tough!!!

  • Have you tried involving her in making meals? DS1 started to become a picky eat and still is a little. But I started involving him in some of the meal preps. He loved it and I got him to eat more things. His favorite thing was to make mini pizzas.

  • My LO is really picky too.  She will not eat meat, not even a hot dog.   She is allergic to eggs and peanuts.

I make a bunch of pureed cannellini beans and carrots and freeze them in ice cube trays.  She loves mac and chees but only Velvetta Whole Wheat Rotini and cheese.  It is not the pillar of nutrition but after I cook the noodles, I add some bean puree with the cheese sauce.  It actually tastes better and it adds a little nutrition.  She will drink a smoothie made with carrot puree, banana, frozen strawberries. greek vanilla yogut and raw spinach.  I use water to thin it enough for the blender to puree.  I made this for her daycare and all the kids loved it.  The adults were shocked that it had veggies in it.

She will eat cheese sticks and cheese pizza but not grilled cheese.

She likes kiwi and strawberries chopped up and mixed together (she says they are fish...no idea why).

    She likes

whole wheat Ritz crackers with cream cheese.

    Apples

    Sometimes bananas

    Clementines (Cuties)

    Dates

Blueberries and strawberries (fresh) mixed with vanilla Greek yogurt (Oikos)

Pancakes (I mash up a banana with a fork and add it to my pancake mix (I use low fat Bisquick) then add one pack of sweet potato baby food, a little cinnamon and vanilla).  They are really good.

Spaghetti with a little pasta sauce but I strain out the chunks in her portion.

Good luck.  I am always looking for ideas too!

  • my dd is going through a picky stage at the moment too with veggies and fruit and it's DRIVING ME CRAZY!

    she does LOVE quesidillas though

I grate carrot and zuchinni - put a tortilla in a pan, sprinkle the grated veg on & some grated cheese (she likes helping with this), put another tortilla on top, flip it when cheese starts melting & tortilla has toasted a bit

then cut into triangles - she LOVES these and at the moment it's one of the few ways I can get veggies into her!

another thing she loves is grated (or chopped tiny) veggies cooked in a bit of butter then scrambled in eggs - I cook it in 1 big patty like an omlette, then can cut it into bite sized pieces to eat
