Our social worker is coming on Thursday to finalize our home study. What types of things did you do to your house? Did anyone do anything differently or just made sure it was clean? I know she is not looking for any baby proofing to be done or anything as we are adopting a newborn. Anything else I should think about?
Thank you!

Nov 2012-Moving onto domestic newborn adoption! Can't wait for my take home baby. We will try IVF again after 1-2 years of a clear head. Need a break from infertility treatments/issues for my mental sanity!

Re: Home study question
We did a big clean (the house definitely needed it though from the holidays as our Home study was 12/29). We made sure to take our dog on a big long walk in the morning before she came to burn off some of his energy so he wouldn't be nudgey during the interview. She didn't look for safety stuff other then smoke detectors, and CO2 detector.. but really those should be in your house for your own safety.
You'll be fine- just try to relax!!
5 Angels
Thank you. Thank you for the dog reminder! We have a 110 pound happy lab that loves attention and new people so I will be def making my husband(who works from home) take him to the dog park to run around for a long time, right before our social worker shows up and while I am driving home from work. Good idea! We need a tired dog!
Same as you. Angel and LCFS for the home study. :
Nice, any hits with your profile yet? That would be so neat if we adopted around the same time with the same company!
That would be so awesome! I have been watching your story since you said you had signed with Angel. We get about 3 or 4 hits a month. Lots of online views since we passed the home study. How about you?
And really. Don't worry about the home visit. It was so easy I laughed at myself for worrying. If LL is your SW she is really laid back and nice. You'll do fine.
I am sure I will be stalking our hits and our profile as soon as it goes up. How long did it take Angel to put it up online after you were home study approved?
We have everything done except for the CPR. My husband has been traveling a lot and we have not been able to make a class. We are in a class on Feb 14th so I am thinking she can not issue our home study until we are officially done with CPR. I am just wondering after that, how long it will be until we are up on the Angel site?
The SW said we were officially done the night she came over. We were online a few days later. It didn't take very long at all.
Yep everything else is done..meetings/trainings/physicals/all paperwork. Just need the CPR class. So we will probably up on the site by the end of February. So exciting but scary at the same time because of all the waiting and everything else that can happen with adoption.
She was coming over at 6pm so we made dinner asked her first and had a light dessert.
She almost forgot to do a walk through of the house but that's really all it was. No looking in closets or checking the baseboards for dust like we all fear.
We did childproof before she came since we were adopting a toddler and we frequently have our nieces and friends kids over so it didn't hurt and we made sure all house safety materials were ready fire extinguisher on each floor, fire escape ladder upstairs, carbon monoxide detectors, etc. Other than that, nothing special.
We did a huge clean.
I also bought a new throw rug to help define space, bought a fire extinguisher and another smoke detector, an over the window exit ladder (we live in a 3rd floor with only one exit), I painted an accent wall, and added a wall decal to my hallway, and bought flowers.
That's it!
Oh and it was all totally unnecessary.
We cleaned like we had never cleaned before, LOL!
I don't think there's anything you need to think about. If they find minor things, you should be able to finish the homestudy with little/no issue. You can always contact the SW and ask what they're looking for, just to be prepared.
Ours walked through the house, asked about sq footage, # of bedrooms and bathrooms and smoke detectors, looked into each room, and listened in awe as DH showed her the gazillion fire extinguishers and fire escape ladders we had. We sat in our dining room (next to the wine tables full of wine, BTW) and she asked about diversity and the general vibe of our neighborhood and town. The whole thing took maybe 45 minutes.
