swaddling help

For the past 2 nights, I have swaddled DS for bed time and for the past 2 nights, he has slept through the night.  Other than a fluke night a couple of weeks ago, these are the first nights DS has slept through the night.

I feel like this is the age in which we should be weaning off the swaddler and not starting it, but mama needs some sleep.  Would you continue to swaddle now and risk a difficult time weaning down the road?  Also, at what age DO they have to stop being swaddled?

Thanks in advance!

Re: swaddling help

  • They don't have to stop being swaddled until they can roll over. Is LO showing signs of rolling ? You could try just one arm out and see if he still STTN. Honestly if my LO was STTN swaddled I'd be enjoying my sleep as long as possible !

  • we still swaddle DD2 and I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. The past few nights she's been unswaddling herself because she's getting too big for her miracle blanket, but we got her a velcro swaddleme and she slept through the night again and was very content!

  • I'm with HALO and I'm also a mom and a HALO SleepSack user.  Can your LO roll over?  Until he can roll or break loose, it is safe to swaddle.  Usually one of these happens around 3-5 months.  I swaddled both of my boys since they were born, and thought the weaning process went pretty smoothly.  We weaned gradually: one arm out, then both, and then transitioned to a Halo SleepSack.  His arms were then free, but the SleepSack provided some confinement, and is much safer than a loose blanket.
