Trying to Get Pregnant

Birth Control pill withdrawal????

I went off birth control last month and I feel like I'm having withdrawal symptoms. I'm dizzy, nauseous and crazy emotional. Did anyone else experience is?

One of my friends said she felt pregnancy symptoms before her missed period. Anyone think that's possible? Could that be my situation or just birth control withdrawal?  Its too early to test....

I want to know about other people's experiences. Any input is appreciated!

Re: Birth Control pill withdrawal????

  • Last month was my first month off birth control in 6 years. I had lots of cramping, headaches, bloating, nausea and sore boobs. My guess is you're not pregnant. If you are pregnant enough to have symptoms you are pregnant enough to turn a test positive.

  • Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear someone else say they've had birth control withdrawal symptoms. My friend thought I was crazy and she was just SURE I had to be preggo.

  • Never had any issues when I stopped taking my birth control pill.

  • Hi! My first month off birth control I was convinced I was pregnant. I was bloated, crazy temperature fluctuations, dizzy, nausea, super high anxiety, etc. I got AF 34 days after my last pill (Tri-Sprintec) and subsequent cycles (on 4th) have been no problem. Realizing the difference between being on hormonal birth control and not, I'm not sure I would choose to go back on in the future.

    Good luck in this process!

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are TTC you will notice things you never noticed before. My biggest new thing is super bloat around ovulation.

Same here. I think in the future I will be looking into non hormonal birth control options.

  • When I got off BC pills I had the worst cramps and a super heavy flow the first month. More breakouts than usual. A few months later, and it's definitely not as bad anymore.

  • I was nauseous for about a month after I went off birth control pills.  I also had terrible headaches and as a result felt dizzy, often in the morning.  It eventually went away but felt similar to what some may confuse for early pregnancy symptoms.
MMC @ 10 weeks, baby measured 9.2 weeks, no heartbeat. Cytotec induced miscarriage on 1/16/14, d&c for retained tissue 2/7/14. My august angel baby
  • Although this is totally different, I had withdrawal symptoms after coming off of Zoloft. I never realized they were withdrawal symptoms until months after they went away. I can see why it could happen with b.c. as well.
  • I wouldn't call them "withdrawal" symptoms because I wasn't addicted to birth control. I was very sensitive to my body's natural progesterone the first month and was nauseous, bloated, and basically every early pregnancy symptom and was convinced I was pregnant. Since then, I'm a little crampy right after O, but only get sore boobs a few days before my period instead of horrible pms like I did the first month.

  • Sounds like birth control withdrawal. I stopped it after 10 years of being on it. I had horrible headaches and got really dizzy a lot.
  • I'm quite sensitive to BCP. I had problems every time I changed (approx every 3 years). And when I finally went off after 13 years, I felt all sorts of crazy hormonal symptoms for the first 2 months off. Probably not pregnant but POAS just to be safe.

  • It could be either, if you feel like your period is late I would poas. When I went off bc the last time I got pregnant before I ever had a period so it's possible but it's could be going off the pill too...

  • I've had those symptoms. Took my last pill on January 5th and am CD 22 now. It's just your body regulating to having it's own hormones in control and doing what they want instead of the pills doing it. But if you think you're pregnant then take a test. GL!
