Those that have/had sick babies

Mobile: those that have/had sick babies

How long did it last? What did you Do for them? The little guy is sick with major congestion and fever. The doctor says it is a virus and just needs to run it course. We are on day 3 and I don't know what else to do to help him feel better.

Re: Those that have/had sick babies

  • DD just started coughing today and she's had a little congestion the last couple days. We're going to the pedi tomorrow to be safe but until then she's getting this on her chest and feet

Edit. We also do humidifier, and she doesn't have a fever.

  • My LO was less than 3 months when he was sick so with the fever and not eating, doctor fit him in right away.  Other than the cold, he did also have an ear infection so we gave him Tylenol + antibiotic.  He was better within 12 hours.  Good luck with your LO!

  • Humidifier where he sleeps, steamy bathroom for as long as he can tolerate it, saline drops, and nose suction. We took him to urgent care yesterday.

  • Ashley had a bad cold that lasted 5 days. She had congestion, coughing (from the snot draining) and what I considered a low fever but my pedi did. She never went about 100.1. Anyways we did same as the other moms, I constantly ran the humidifier, sucked out the snot and kept giving her bath just for comfort. I also kept her on an angle to help the drainage in her throat. She slept in her carseat for naps or her rock n play at night. good luck I promise it won't last forever!!
  • Thanks ladies!! We've been to the pedi fri and today. They ruled out the flu and ear infection and said its just a virus and to keep an eye on it. I just kept him in the steamy bathroom for awhile that seems to have helped and he fell asleep in his RnP. They said if he still has a fever Tuesday he needs to come back in.

  • Lo hasn't been really sick with a fever or anything just sneezing and congestion. BUT, we do humidifier at night and naps, Vicks on the feet just a tiny amount or the baby kind, and a really hot steam shower, just run the hot water shower and sit in the bathroom.

Also put a wedge under the mattress for sleeping to allow drainage.

  • Elliott has basically been sick since before Christmas. We were in the hospital the 5 days after Christmas and it was just starting to sound like he was getting over his cough, when suddenly it started getting worse last weekend. So now we are on the downslope of round two of bronchiolitits.

We  use a humidifier, take super steamy baths, bulb syringe and saline for the nose, have his bed elevated about 30 degrees (and we have breathing treatments that are hopefully keeping us put of the hospital this time).

  • We did the baby Vicks on his chest and feet, humidifier with Vicks stuff in it, Baby Magic vapor bath, and constant nosefrida sucking. (Obviously, our entire house smells like Vicks right now.) If you don't have a nosefrida, you need to get one. Bulb syringes suck and I saw a pic the other day of one that was cut open and it's full of boogers and mold. Nasty.
