Feeding solids away from home...

So this may be a silly question, but: how do you go about feeding LO solids when  you and LO are not home?

Tonight, DH, LO and I will be going to my parents house to celebrate my brother's birthday. Typically, I feed LO solids twice a day (once between 10-11am, and once around 5:30 or 6pm) so tonight we will not be home for his second feeding. And i know this won't be the last time something like that happens, so...

How do you go about doing the solid feeding when you're not home? Do you have some kind of traveling high chair? Do you use something else (like a Bumbo)? Do you just change the feeding time? I feel like there's an easy answer to this, but I'm just not seeing it.

  • Either we just don't worry about it as food before one is just for fun or we just feed ds pieces of food while we hold him on our laps.

  • i usually bring a traveling high chair and feed him whatever we are eating...i also always have puffs, yogurt bites or other small finger food to keep him entertained while we are eating.

it helps to have him join us at any meal... this means i can enjoy my dinner while he enjoys his... :)

  • We sit him on our lap and feed him if its pures. If its finger food we sit him on our lap and face the table so he can use it. We also just got The Lobster and he loves it. It's a travel high hair that folds flat and fastens onto the table.
  • I don't worry about it.  But we did travel for my husband's work, and I just fed them in their car seats.  That's actually how we started out with solids since we didn't get high chairs until xmas.

  • I use our stroller if we are going to be somewhere w out a high chair like a relatives home.
  • We have a travelling high chair that clamps onto the table, so good anywhere there is a table.  Then I just take whatever I would have fed her at home in a container with a bib and spoon, and feed her.  It's really not any trouble.
  • I throw a container of her food and spoon in my bag. We have a travel booster seat/highchair that we use or depending on where we are and what we're  doing, like when we were at Disney, she just stayed in the stroller. If she sat on our lap, we wouldn't get to eat since she steals everything her little hands can wrap her fingers around. So she normally plays with her toys while we eat and whoever gets done first feeds her. We did the same thing with DS. She doesn't really have an eating schedule. It depends on when she wakes up so her schedule goes from there. Dinner, she eats when we do. Her lunch and breakfast is usually before me and then I eat when she goes down for her nap or when she's having her after lunch bottle.

So, taking food along is really not a big deal.

  • Try this while having your son sit on your lap.  It's been a life saver!
