Anisa vs Anissa

What are your thoughts on this name?  And do you have a preference for one S or two?

I strongly prefer Anisa; the extra S seems superfluous, and depending on which site you use, the origin and meaning of the name changes.

I think the Aribic origin of Anissa is better than the combo English origin of Anissa.

I agree with the Arabic vs English origins, and I'm curious to see if more people are thinking anus.  I hope not, because I think this is such a lovely name and it goes really well with our last name.

I hear both spellings as "a-NEE-sah."

I don't think of anus...but I DO pronounce them differently (see above).

I've also seen Anissa (a-NISS-a) spelled Anyssa.

I prefer Anissa, but it's probably because I know one in real life. I think it's pretty.

I have known several Anisas....I think the name is very nice. I love the meaning. Never have I once thought of anus. I would not add the extra S. as previously said... It would then read like the end of the name Clarissa then.

Either I was more than half asleep last night when I posted this, or I am so opposed to the Anissa/a-NISS-a that I blocked it out.  Given that, the choice on spelling is settled.. but the closeness to "anus" is unsettling.

I totally LOL'd at that like a 13 year old boy.

Anisa is further from anus than Anissa, but it's still too close for comfort.

I understand your ambivalence. I really loved Anneliese until a bunch of posters said it sounded like 'anal ease'.

With the spelling Anisa I would pronounce ah-nee-suh. No association with anuses, and a very lovely sounding name. I would think that Anissa was supposed to be pronounced ah-nih-suh. Slight association with anuses, but only if someone suggests it or I have had a few drinks and am giggly. Still a nice name, but I don't like it as much.
