Mine has been in the basement all day replacing some cast iron drains that started to leak recently. I'm glad he's handy, and it saves us a lot of money, but he's doing it alone, and he's kind of ... slow. I don't know when I'm going to be able to use the kitchen again.
Re: Is your DH Handy?
LOL no.
Thank goodness his Dad and his brother are. He can do some very basic handy things, but usually he calls on his brother and father for some support.
Well we live in an apt so I haven't been able to experience it, but FI says he's quite handy. In the future we plan on buying a log home kit and he will do the wiring and a lot of the construction. We shall see....
Yes, but I think I am handier. I come from a family of do it yourself-ers, he did not, so he has been learning a lot from my dad over the years. He has always been able to fix the cars but I think I have an edge on him construction/household repair wise. Right now we have gutted a bathroom he has to move drains move the light boxes add an outlet and a fan plus then we are building a shower base and tiling.
I call him negative handy.
He tries to fix stuff, but then he normally makes it worse.
This reminded me of something that happened this morning. DH barks at me that the tuner for our speaker system is broke. He's b!tching that he can't watch tv with the speakers on. He wants me to go online to see where we can get a new one The tuner will not turn on at all.
What is the first thing you would check?
Yep. The flucking plug. It was just pulled out a little. It took about 5 seconds for me to figure that out and turn it on. He's helpless.
Does HE think he's handy? Yes.
Is he handy in actuality? Not so much.
Honey, did you look on the middle shelf right next to the blue basket?
Yes and it's not there. I looked for 5 minutes.
What do I see on the shelf inches from the blue basket? Oh it's that the bottle of aloe you couldn't find.
I've used the line "Just so you know, when I find it, I am going to throw it at your head. Go look again or start running."
Unclogging a toilet is about the extent of my DHs man-ness. And that's only if the clog needs a plunger. Anything beyond that we have to call someone.
He doesn't even own a hammer.
Yes he is. I think that's probably one of the reasons I married him. He's a plumber and has also has experience in almost every other aspect of the construction industry.
Sometimes it woks against me, though. We live in a brand new house yet he constantly finds projects to work on and things to "improve".
Hehe, yes, DH is pretty handy, and he's a google-expert and hates spending money, so if he doesn't know how to do it he's great at finding out. It's a double-edged sword, though, because sometimes it would be faster/easier/job-would-get-done-better if we just hired a professional.
