LOVE IT....but I worry that it will just become a name that people use to get the "ella" or "ellie" nickname.... since names like Ella, Gabriella, Isabella, Eleanor are being used a lot and it goes along with the current trend to use old fashioned or "grandparent" type names
Ab.so.lute.ly LOVE it. I had a very influential older lady role model in church named Luella Irene. I looked up to her so much, she was absolutely wonderful. She died of cancer when I was in high school, sadly... I've always thought about using one of her names (I really like Irene) as a middle name, to honor her. I say go for it.
My grandma's name is Luella Frances and my great-grandma's (her mother) name is Lulu Emma
It's definitely not that common anymore. I like it as a middle name but not sure how I feel about it being a first name...

It is definitely not made up, but I agree I'm not wid about it. Although I find the nn Lulu oddly appealing.
Makes me think of the handbag designer, Luella Bartley.
This.
And I don't think it ages well.
