I didn't have one with DS. He screamed so badly during diaper changes that I ended up rinsing his wipes under warm water before I'd change his diaper for the first few weeks.
My sister bought me a wipe warmer about a month ago and I've been using it for DS while we wait for Baby Girl. DS is much happier during diaper changes and it hasn't dried out the wipes like PP's doctor suggested that it might.

As long as you keep the pad moist enough, they shouldn't dry out. We used one when dd was smaller, and I loved it. I stopped using it because the pad needed replaced, and I never found a new one.
I heard that if you use one, the baby will get used to warm wipes and you could have a meltdown or two when you use cold ones in a pinch. I'm a FTM though so I'm not sure. good luck.
I was told by several Mom friends to get one, that it makes those early morning diaper changes so much easier and little one goes back to sleep easier as well. They recommended the Munchkin one and said to stay away from the price lionheart one as that one is notorious for drying out the wipes.
I got one from my shower too so I did use it with DS. He never got "used" to it and the wipes never dried out. I kept it upstairs in his room so I'd only use it when I was upstairs though. After the cold winter months I stopped using it. I'll use it again this time around during the cold months.
We never used one with any of the babies in my family. With my youngest sister we used to ball up the wipe and roll it in between our hands for a few seconds to take the "chill" off of it. It didn't warm it, but it wasn't shockingly cold when you put the wipe on her bottom.
No you don't NEED one. They are nice to have...at first...
Your baby doesn't seem to mind the warmer, eh, sensation shall we say...until the warmer starts drying out your wipes...then baby starts to mind...a lot.
To each her own though...I had one. Same situation. Shower gift. It was cool at first. Til my daughter started throwing a fit EVERY single time I changed her.
Then I tried it out on myself lol...then I understood why the difference would be 'discomforting' to a newborn...smooth, damp, and cool or dry, warm, and scratchy??
I think they're silly and never would have gotten one for myself, but I also got one as a shower gift. EVERYONE at the shower said it was just the greatest thing and they make middle-of-the-night changes so much easier. I don't see how wipes can really be so cold that they would bother the baby (especially where I live - we have 70 degree weather in January!)
I guess I'll use mine since I have it, unless it starts drying out the wipes like others have mentioned (although, it has a thing that you wet to keep the wipes moist - annoyingly, you're supposed to replace it every 3 months!). Once I run out of all the wipes people have given me, though, I'm probably going to switch over to reusable wipes (aka: washcloths + water, lol) so the warmer will probably get stuck in the closet.
I had one but never used it b/c didn't want LO getting used to it where it became a problem if I couldn't use it like in another part of the house or out. plus refilling it with water & now that LO is older it'd be a hazard to watch out for pull downs. sounds like a pita to me.
my SIL and BIL swear by theirs so we put the munchkin brand one on our registry. In the instructions It actually tells you not to leave it on if you arent using it for a while and to add water when they get dry, which doesn't harm the whipes in any way.Just like everything else we got for our baby that has instructions, I skimmed through them when I took them out of the boxes/put them together and am going to again when I plan on using them.I put all the instruction books together in one of the baskets in my LOs closet so If I need to get to them easily, I can. Some people tend to not keep or read the instruction booklets(I learned my lesson with throwing away those kinds of things..) and assume something is pointless if they don't understand how it works or how to use it.
We live in a very cold area(highest temp this past 10 days was 14 degrees F) and if someone wanted to get me a wipe warmer to make my baby more comfortable on cold nights,I was totally for it.anything to help her go back to sleep easy!

you absolutely do not need a wipe warmer. the top wipe dries out and you end up using more than you otherwise would. If it's important to you to wipe your baby with something warm, use a wash cloth with warm water as it will be cheaper in the long run.
