Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If your LO has had ear infection issues, please come in

I am so frustrated...my son is on his third ear infection, and this last one he has had for THREE weeks!!  He had two rounds of antibiotics (the second dose was a stronger kind, don't remember the name). We went in for his follow-up and it's still not gone, so the doc is giving us a round of antibiotic shots, one per day for three days.  She said if that does not make it go away we have to go to an ENT doctor.  In addition, DS has had this awful cough and runny nose since Thanksgiving. So our doc also perscribed a nebulizer (sp?) and now we have to do breathing treatments. My son is very fussy and sleeping badly.  So I am feeling so bad for him not feeling well all the time and frankly/selfishly I'm feeling a little bad for myself because he needs constant attention (which is ok,comforting him is more important than anything but so tiring + plus the sleepless nights I'm irritable all the time).  I feel like we had a couple of good months after DS got over his colic, and then months of illness for him!

Has anyone else had this amount of illness? Specifically if you've had the ear infection issues, is your doc doing something similar? Or, if you've gotten to the ENT visit stage, what's being planned for your LO?

  • It's frustrating. LO's ears have never been clear after his massive one at 4mo, and subsequent smaller infections.

We waited it out to get tubes and we had to cancel our surgery because of this norovirus crap going around. LO was too sick to get them. I dont know the last time he's been totally clear of anything.

    Hang in there, Mama.

  • LO had RSV in November and now has had cold symptoms for going on 6 weeks. She's on nebulizer treatments as needed. Older LO has had 5 ear infections in the last 6 months. The last one he's on his third course of antibiotics for. We went to ENT on Monday and he recommended tubes which we're having done Thursday. I feel your pain.

  • My LO is 6 months old and attends daycare 4 days a week. She has already had 2 ear infections.

The first time she was treated with amoxicillin (pink liquid).

4 weeks later, she had another infection and this was treated with Augmentin (white liquid antibiotic).

She has had a cough and runny nose for 18 days, but her pedi says that her ear infection is gone and she's ok. I dislike the duration of the cough, however!

  • We had lots of trouble with ear infections starting at 3 months, and almost 6 months DS had tubes put in his ears.  Not one infection since.  GL I know it's not fun.  The tubes have helped tons though.

  • I absolutely feel your pain.  We went through the pure hell of colic, only to be followed by an ear infection every month.  He had five his first winter and another four his second winter before we got tubes in.  The antibiotic shots were bad because by the time he got the third one, he knew what was coming and he had to be held down.  The tube surgery is very simple and totally worth it.

  • Take him off dairy. I am a registered dietitian and deal with this often. With his Colic and ear infections I would strongly urge you to go dairy free with him. I know it can sound overwhelming to do so, but I swear by it.
