Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Bottle question

At what age do you start weaning away from bottles?  DS is 10 months old and gets 5 6oz bottles a day.  He's starting to leave some milk in a few bottles each day, which his dr said was normal for this age.  We've offered a sippy cup to him a few times - with BM and water - and he just plays with it and pushes it away.

Re: Bottle question

  • Just keep offering a variety of sippy cups. We've tried with and without the suction plunger. He now does best with the Nuby silicone spout ones. Sometimes, we have to pretend to drink out of it, and then he'll try. We usually have to hold it for him at first, then eventually he'll grab the handles and do it on his own. And then inevitably, he'll throw it across the room. There's not a huge rush, but he might need a lot of practice. I would say my son has gone from an F in sippy cup to like a C-. One proud mama over here.

  • I agree with PP, our pedi said to start giving little bits of whole milk to him so he gets used to it.  I will say I tried and he does fine with water but when I put his formula in it he wasn't really having it.  I will have to see if the whole milk is different because it tastes different.
