Baby Names

Beau

Give it to me straight....What do you think of Beauregard with NN Beau? Obviously for a boy name.

Good, bad, opinions?
Acceptable as a mn or fn?

Husband is pretty attached to it so I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Re: Beau

  • It's very Southern.

I actually like the sound of the name, but the Confederate associations put it way off limits for me. It's another one of those Confederate general names, plus Bo Duke. That makes it much less attractive to me.
  • Not a fan of Beau in general but really dislike Beauregard. Sorry. If he won't let it go, I guess as a middle name isn't terrible.

  • Very Southern. It's nms, but I don't mind Beau. Not a fan of Beauregard.

  • I think it is a legit name. I think of Beau from Gone with the Wind. However, the name is nms and every Beau I know is a dog. Including one of my mom's dogs.

  • I really love Beau! Not a real fan of Beauregard because it sounds a little pretentious to me.

  • Beau rhymes with our last name. I think the Southern connection will turn DH off the name so I'll definitely bring that up.
I can't picture a baby named Beauregard...it's too much maybe for a kid lol.
  • I don't like it at all, sorry.

  • I definitely prefer just Beau. If I were going to use the longer version, I'd place it in the mn spot.

  • I actually really like Beau & Beauregard. Now I must say that where I live Beau is a pretty normal name. The confederate states army (and Bo Duke) do make the name less attractive, therefore I'd think twice of using the name as a first name. Also, from your post I understand that you're not extremely excited about the name yourself, so save it for the mn spot.

  • Love it! The nickname is perfect too. Works well particularly if you have ties to the South.

  • I don't like Beauregard at all. However, I do like Beau.

  • Thanks! I was hoping it wasn't just me who didn't love it. I'm trying to give DH's name ideas a chance but when you are working with things like Remington, Wolf and Beauregard...it's tough.
  • DH's name is Beau (full name, not NN). I have to admit, it took me awhile to get used to, but I do like that it's different and it fits him. He likes it, but has always had to deal with mispronunciations.

Overall, I think it's a cute name for a baby/child but also ages well!

FWIW we live in the midwest. GL!

  • I think Beau is fine, nms, but fine.  I am kind of confused with Beauregard, is it pronounced like it looks?  I am not a fan, sorry.

  • I don't mind Beau but Beauregard is just horrible.

LOLs. I think your DH needs a pet.  All of those sound like dog names to me.  I know three Beaus (one of which is Beauregard - they are a great dane mix, a boxer and a pit bull), one Wolf (he's a German shepherd) and two Remys (one of which is Remington - they are a terrier/pug mix and a Boston).

  • Good lord...he is always bringing home pets. Maybe I can deflect the name onto one of them. A small dog or kitten perhaps suits the same better.
  • Love. I have a Beau in my family already or I'd use it

EDIT: just Beau as legit name. Not Beauregard.
  • I don't absolutely hate it, but it's not at all my style.

This exactly. FWIW a friend just named her new baby Beau, and it totally fits him.
