From best to worst:

Girls- Emmalynn, Harper, Evangeline, Mercedes, Sawyer

Boys- Bennett, Isaac, Ethan Kenneth, Sawyer

Ethan would be my first choice for boys, but I am not a fan of the double 'TH" sound in Ethan Kenneth. If I was going purely off first names, Ethan comes before Bennett.

I think you're mistaken. MIL is Lynn, that's why the name is Emmalynn and not just Emma or Emmeline, etc. The MN is not Lynn.

At least that's what I got out of that post.

Sorry, yes, you are correct. I have been seeing it spelled that way and just like it for some reason. Middle name will most def not be Lynn!

I like Evangeline from your girl list. I think Sawyer for a girl is dreadful.

From your boy list, my favorite name is Isaac, but I do like the family significance of Ethan Kenneth.

Please do not name your child Mercy or Mercedes. That is terrible. Evangeline is ok but very southern. Harper is nice. Sawyer is a boy name. Do not like Emmalynn. Honor MIL by giving her the middle name Lynn.

I like Ethan the most for a boy.  

DH loves Mercedes,I don't. It has significant meaning to him (not the car). I was trying to come up with a compromise - Mercy or Sadie.

I have never met a Mercedes, but I have never heard of Mercy as a NN. I love the name Mercy.

Evangeline--It is a mouthful

Harper--Love it but has become too popular for my liking

I like Evangeline, Emmalynn (different spelling though?), Sawyer, and Harper (getting too trendy though) for your girls. Bennett is my fav boy name, but Isaac isn't bad and I like the idea behind Ethan Kenneth though I'm not sure I like the flow of it (too many th sounds).

Boys:  I like Isaac the best, but I always love names with meaning, so Ethan Kenneth is great too!

Harper is SO overdone. I'm not a fan of any of your girl names. Emmeline I'd like over Emmalynn (despite the MIL connection...) I like Ethan best from your boy list.

Evangeline is your best girls name. Mercedes is a car and Mercy isn't a great nickname, Sawyer is a boy's name (as you obviously know since it is on your boy list!), Emmalynn just looks trendy and made up, and Harper is not feminine at all. 

Ethan Kenneth is really nice, as is Issac. Bennet and Sawyer are ok, though I'd probably spell it Bennett, with just the one "t" it looks incomplete.

The car was actually named after the guy's daughter. It means mercies. I do get what you are all saying. I'm not 100% sold either. It's DH's pick, and I'm trying to compromise with a NN.
