I love the name Alexandra. It is my aunt's name and I would love to use it for a future DD. What are your thoughts on the name and what are MN suggestions?

Family names I'd use for a MN (Please still leave suggestions of non-family names!):

Rose

Elisabeth

Karen

Anne 

Lorelei

Tessa/Teresa

Daniella/Danielle

 ALSO: I don't like any nicknames for Alexandra like Alex, Allie/Ally/etc. *I especially dislike Lexi/Alexa/Alexis etc with the 'lex" in it. I've always hated it. If I do name possible DD Alexandra, if people shorten her name, would I just say "No, her name isn't Alex/Allie, etc. It's Alexandra."?

Because Alexandra is a strong first name I think it needs an equally strong MN.  Nicole would work well.  Karen, Teresa, and Danielle all work from your list.  I also like Brianne.

I like Alexandra, and I kind of like Anne from your MN list, even with the A ending on the FN.

As for the NNs, I think you will be able to correct people when she is little, but would it bug you if your DD decided to go by Lexi/Alex/Ally when she is old enough to decide? If you really would hate that, I would probably look for a different name.

Ally I don't mind too much, but I hate Alex on a gir (I like it on a boy though...hmm. )l and I despise the names Alexa/Alexis/Lexi. I have for my whole life for some reason.

My parents absolutely hate the name Nicky but risked it and named me Nicole anyway. I think if you always refer to her as Alexandra that is what people will pick up on, and you probably won't have to correct them as much as you think you will. When she gets older, though, if she doesn't care or likes one of the nicknames, you might go to parent-teacher conferences and find out her teachers know her as Alex or something. (This happened to someone I know when her son started middle school.)

This is my name and I've gone by Ali my whole life - but my mom started it at birth. I think if you call her Alexandra, she'll probably go by that. She might decide to be called something else, but it is likely she'll FEEL like whatever name you call her consistently. Correct people while she's young. People always compliment my name and while I'm biased, I think it is lovely

I like Elisabeth best out of your MN choices and agree with PP that you need something strong to match the FN.

Yep. That's exactly what you say. Love Alexandra.  I think it sounds best with Rose but also like Elisabeth and Danielle.

Very true (regarding the NNs). From your list I like Rose, Elizabeth and Teresa. I also like Alexandra Regina.

I like Alexandra and if people call her anything else, just correct them.  Your family MN's are great.  I like Alexandra Rose.  I can't think of others that I like better than that.
