Hellp syndrome or E Clampsia anyone?

Did anyone develop E Clampsia  or hellp syndrome after delivering? I got both and was extremely sick for weeks and am scared to get pregnant again. I don't think it will happen again or is more likely but the experience is stuck in my mind!

Re: Hellp syndrome or E Clampsia anyone?

  • I was diagnosis with Hellp at 35 weeks and had to have an emergency c-section. I'm also afraid of getting pregnant again because of the fear of it happening again at an earlier stage in my pregnancy. I dont want to take the risk. We can't help but to think about what we experienced its life.

  • I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia-- I had a scheduled c section at 36 weeks (DD was breech)

I was in the hospital for 2 weeks prior to giving birth and 1 week after giving birth- the protein in my urine was so high my doctor put me on hospital bed rest until the c section. I was so puffy too. ugh.

THEN after I had the c section I had to go on magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures. It. Was. Horrible..

I am terrified to get pregnant again because I don't want all that to happen again. I feel like my body is just now getting back to it's old self (6 months later)

I hear it is very high for first time moms

I hope it doesn't happen to you again! Or any other mammas out there!!

  • I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one out there! I got both after I delivered and I had a seizure and dislocated my shoulder. My shoulder is still messed up but much better then it was. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone or happen again! Not fun!

I had too developed E Clampsia after birth and was in ICU for 3 days afterward. It was scary but what has scarred me worse is the anxiety about my health it has left me with. I'm really glad to finally see some other women talking about it and like you I'm nervous about having another child. DH and I will almost certainly have another child and I'm nervous about the next pregnancy. THe only thing I can do to make myself feel less worried is to be as healthy as I can be before the next pregnancy to hopefully have a problem free birth and recovery. Does that have any real bearing on the situation? I have no clue.

  • I developed HELLP with DD1 at 35 weeks and had an e c-section.  I did not have HELLP or pre-e with DD2.  I had a very normal pregnancy and had a vbac with DD2 at 39 weeks.  I was really worried during my 2nd pregnancy too, but I had no issues.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was also in ICU for 4 days after and scared my entire family and husband that I might not make it. I think about it all the time and it scares me to think I could have died and my son wouldn't have me. I don't think it has anything to do with health. I was a healthy weight prior to delivering, worked out through my whole pregnancy and gained under 30 lbs. I had zero signs no high blood pressure, swelling etc. I threw up A few hours after delivering and the nurse insisted it was a stomach bug when in fact my liver was shutting down and then I had a seizure and the rest is a blur. I'm glad I don't remember much but the memory still is suck in my head.
