Great! My uncle is our dentist but is not a ped. Dentist so I like getting second opinions. Ds 4 yrs old has a dead front tooth it isn't bothering him so uncle figures we will just let it fall out on its own. Do you agree? It is turning brownish now but isn't terribly noticeable.

It depends on what the radiograph looks like. It can turn into an abscess without any symptoms which can then damage the permanent tooth. You have three options: pray it doesn't turn into an abscess, take radiographs often but worry about excess radiation at a young age when you wouldn't want to expose the thyroid so much, or extract which might make him anxious about going to the dentist.
Unfortunately all of those have potential consequences, some more severe than others. Did he fall and bump it or have a big cavity that caused the nerve to die?
We don't know what happened. My uncle noticed it during a check up almost a year ago. He is definitely a wait and see kind of dentist, not in a negligent way....
Eh, if you're comfortable with him and he takes a radiograph of it when you go in for check ups then I would go with it. I like that option the best because right now assuming the radiograph looks ok it's not doing any harm.
What does DDS stand for? I mean, I know it's a dental degree but what exactly are the words?Gawd I feel dumb asking this.Wait. Doctor of Dental Surgery?
Yes, Doctor of Dental Surgery.
The other dentist option is DMD which is Doctor of Dental Medicine. It was made up by Harvard because they do all their degrees in Latin and didn't like the Latin version of this abbreviation which would have been CDD. Both types are the same curriculum.
Just stopping in to say thanks for answering my questions the other week. We finally after three offices found a lawyer that will look into things for my kiddo.
I did make calls to the insurance company also about the dental office that was in question.
Cheers!
It sucks that it came to that but I'm glad things are moving in the right direction. You LO is so lucky to have a mom that is an advocate for his health!
Re: DDS roll call
LOL, sure!
I hope her answers are all "Have you considered brushing and flossing your teeth?"
Did you ever update on that whole whistle-blowing situation?
Because I'm on anesthesia rotation this month. Kids were sick= no surgeries.
