Starting a new job when PG?

I have the opportunity to take a new job that seems like a great opportunity but I am a little nervous about trying to start a new job when PG.  I am very newly PG so I would most likely work 7-8 months before having to go out on mat. leave, but there are days when I just feel like such cr@p already that I am nervous about trying to make a good impression on new clients and co-workers.  The good news is, the job is very flexible and a lot of the work can be done remotely (so at home in my PJ's) but my current job is pretty flexible with me.  AT the new job I am not eligible for paid vacation or benefits, so no paid leave at all.  At my current job, I get vacation but no disability, so I would only get paid during leave for any vacation time I use.

But mostly I am nervous about feeling horrible and trying to make a good impression on new people.  Should I take this into consideration, or just leave the PG situation out of the decision?  I was sure I wanted to do this but now that it is time to sign the offer letter I am in a panic.

  • I accepted a new position and will be starting in April. I knew it was the right move for me. I think it's most important to think about where you want to be in the long run. Is it a change of career type job? I would take that into consideration. The no leave is a bit concerning. But will they be accommodating for the time off you need?

It's not just paid leave you'll have to worry about--you won't have worked there long enough to be eligible for FMLA.  Your situation could vary from state to state, but it's something to think about.

  • It is not entirely a career change, but a better work environment and more along the lines of what I enjoy doing.  They will accomodate the time I need to have off.  Basically, this is a job where I am a casual employee and get paid only for the time I work, but I can work out my own schedule and they will shift clients around accordingly.  It is an ideal working mom situation for me, since my DH travels a couple of days every week.

I am worried more about not feeling my best and trying to make a good impression on new clients, but I am just going to go for it and hope it works out.  This is the type of job I have wanted for a long time so I don't want to give up the opportunity.
