This is embarrassing but I realize I do not know many baby songs! The other night I was trying to sooth LO and the only songs I knew were Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, ABCs (I was desperate), Mary Had a Little Lamb, and made up lyrics to Hush a Bye Baby. So..what songs do you sing to your little ones?
Re: What do you sing to your baby?
I think a better question is what "don't" I sing!
I make up songs that describe what we're doing and I probably sound like a real goon. But, he seems to like it! Once he's older he'll probably think life is one giant Broadway musical.
Check out some children's singalong apps or children's Pandora stations!
Sometimes I sing real songs (I have the biggest list in my head... I started writing them down and I stopped at about 150)
But even though I know all of those songs, I mostly just make up songs. Or just sing instead of talking. Some of the songs that I make up end up being sung again, and sometimes it's a one time song.
Your baby just loves that you sing.
Haha I do this too! We call her Baby, and I always sing "hey pretty Baby" to her.
We watch sing-a-long videos (mostly veggie tales) and I sing and dance with her to those.
I make up words to current pop songs for her. I'm terrible with nursery rhymes.
I used to be a brownie leader, so I know a lot of kiddie songs
My favourites are "Alouette" and "Rainbow Connection". I also go to a weekly baby songs group, and I've learned a few more silly songs with actions for young kids. There's a lot on YouTube, if you want to learn some yourself.
But today she also got a rendition of Queen's "Bicycle Race" when her bicycle diaper cover came up, and all the verses "American Pie" when it came into my head when she was fussy. Oh, and what I remembered of a couple songs from Carmen with silly voices.
What can I say? I get bored narrating my day but I still want to expose R to language, so she gets a lot of mama singing.
FTM-to-be here lurking, but I'm a preschool teacher and I do a lot of singing with little kids. I love the Wee Sing series (https://weesing.com/Books-Music). I had the tapes and books as a child and still use them for ideas to teach my students. This website has literally thousands of song ideas all categorized out - fingerplays, lullabyes, songs about particular holidays or topics, folk songs.
In addition to particular child-centered songs, with babies I sing pop music, stuff from musicals, church music, just about anything I like to sing and know the words to. I don't think you can go wrong!
