So DH and I took a break from discussing names since we were getting nowhere. Neither of us could find a name we really liked, only ones we were so-so on and none that we agreed on. This weekend is when we would exchange our lists and the more I am looking at mine the less I like it DD is Josephine nn Josie. We are team green and here is what I have:
Girl: Louise, Eleanor
Boy: Henry, Theodore
The more I look at my list the more I feel these are not the right names. I tend to like not overly popular names and don't want a really common name, which DH does not care about. Here is what I am anticipating to be on his list: Emma, Jessica, May, June, Mary and William, Samuel.
I would love to hear thoughts and additions to my list! I know the right name is out there. I seem to like girl names that can also have a nn where as I don't care as much for a nn for a boy. Thanks and Happy Friday
Re: My sad, pathetic name list
You have good taste.
I love love love Eleanor. Plus it has options for cute nicknames. Nora and Josie? Ellie and Josie? Very pretty. Louise is NMS.
I love both of your boy names. Theodore is my favorite though, I've been hearing Henry everywhere.

*Taking a break*
Can I just put in a vote for Mary? Sisters Josephine and Mary would be such a lovely thing to come across. The sound of Mary is so pleasant, and it's very uncommon nowadays. It's feminine, has a lot of history, sounds lovely, and has a cute nickname (Mamie) that would be perfect with Josie!!
Okay, now that that's over - I like your other girl names too. Have you considered Louisa instead of Louise? I like Louise, but I prefer it in the mn spot because of its cadence. Eleanor is pretty, but definitely more popular than Louise/a or Mary.
Other suggestions:
Margaret (plenty of cute nicknames here: Meg, Margot, Maggie, Greta, etc.)
Aurelia
Jane
Matilda (nn could be Tillie)
As for boys, I love the name Theodore - and love the nn Theo! Other classic but uncommon boy names:
Francis
Eli
Leland
Oliver (pretty common now, though)
August (nn Gus?)
First, I love Josephine nn Josie.
I also love Eleanor and think it pairs well with DD1. Nora/Josie or Ellie/Josie make a great sibset.
Other suggestions:
Penelope nn Penny
Margaret nn Maggie
Katherine nn Kate
Annabelle nn Anna
Charlotte nn Lottie
Evelyn nn Evie
I also like Theodore (nn Theo or Teddy), William (nn Will or Liam) and Samuel (nn Sam) and love Henry.
Other suggestions:
Benjamin nn Ben
Matthew nn Matt
Andrew nn Drew
Lucas nn Luke
Elijah nn Eli
Nathaniel nn Nate
Phillip
Eleanor + Louise = Eloise
adorable.
Eleanor is really growing on me, may be due to the nn Nora...but I like it. I also like Emma but it is so popular.
Henry is a great name, I'm loving it lately. I also have always been a fan of Samuel.
My suggestions...names that I like.
Eliza, Ruby, Willa and Scarlett.
Marshall, Leo, Maxwell and Oliver.
I like all of your names
Other names that you might like: Clara, Cora, Hazel, Eloise, Simon, Oliver, Felix
Mae Louise is a super cute name. I like how Josie and Mae sound together.
On the 2011 list, Eleanor is at 150 and Mary is at 112. So Eleanor is not more popular than Mary, it just seems to come up on this board more often (it IS more popular with certain populations - like in DC it is number 20 or something, and those populations might be more likely to use this board). If you're going for least popular, Louise is at 1698 and Louisa is second least popular at 1225.
I love Eleanor. It is a top contender for this LO. If you feel your list just isn't right, I'd consider waiting and seeing LO at birth. While we're pretty set on a name, we aren't feeling 100% sure and will wait and see.
All of the bolded!
