I went to my 1 yr appointment today and my doctor gave me a script for the hsg. On the back there were instructions saying i should be taking antibiotics around the test prophylactically. My ob friend said antibiotics are routine but i'm a little confused my doctor didnt mention it.
Did you all take antibiotics when you had your hsg?
I didn't. The only rx I was given was valium to relax me a bit.

MY BLOG -- About DD, TTC and everything in between!
I did. The doctor wrote the script for it the day I called to schedule the HSG, and I started taking them the morning of the procedure. I think I took them for 5 days.

my doctor told me I should be taking antibiotics because the risk of infection from the procedure is high.
the nurse I saw after says lots of women get pregnant right after the hsg in part because they have an infection they didnt know about, and that clears it up. not sure if that part is true, but was interesting anyway!
They gave me a onetime dose of doxycycline immediately after the procedure, before I left the room. I'm immunocompromised due to medicines I take and they said I didn't need any more antibiotics than what they give to everyone, which is the onetime dose. Good luck!
TTC #1 since Sept 2011 BFP#1 1/31/12. Empty sac discovered 3/5/12. MTX due to location in uterine horn. BFP#2 2/27/13. Empty sac confirmed 3/20/13. Mifepristone + cytotec. Currently TTA until Fall 2013, waiting for operative hysteroscopy Blog Chart
I also got a script for 5 days of Doxycycline. Started it the day before the HSG but after the procedure the RE said to stop taking them as the test was normal. I was surprised too when I got the script in the mail after I scheduled the HSG.
