First Tooth Tradition

Anyone ever heard of a tradition in which the person who finds his first tooth, buys him his first pair of shoes? Why is this? Where does it come from?

    I posted on FB that I foundy sons first tooth tonight. One of my friends posted that and said her family and some friends do it.

    My in-laws follow this tradition.  I'd never heard of it.
