drowsy vs. sleeping

Hi girls. I haven't posted in awhile but I'm looking for some feedback.

I know that everything says that you should put your baby down drowsy, etc, etc. My son was super colicky weeks 4-10 and we had to rock and bounce him around forever to get him sleeping. Now that he's 3.5 months, he still needs to be rocked completely asleep. In the MOTN when he gets up to nurse we're up for at least an hour trying to get him back down. I try putting him down sleepy, but he screams the minute I set him down.

Help!

90 percent of the time we have to rock to sleep. I guess i'm no help. I can only suggest you do the same thing everytime and she'll go down quicker. Good luck!

Thanks; the prolonged night wakings seem to have only started the last week and a half or so. I'm *hoping* it's just a phase.

  • I hum a soft "hmmmm" sound to my lo when she screams about sleep it calms her down and helps her sleep...I usually do this while I'm holding her over my shoulder so she can feel the vibration of my voice

  • I wish I could help you but I usually cannot put my baby down drowsy. I have to rock her to sleep. In the MOTN she's easy to put down. Sorry I can't help more!

That's ok! I've read the No Cry Sleep Solution and I want to start sleep logs and eventually write up a plan for helping him go down without being sound asleep.

Part of the MOTN business is that he doesn't nurse until he's sleepy or sleeping. He's always wide awake when we're done.

  • Our trick is to slowly lower LO down to his crib, then put our hand immediately on his chest to apply some pressure, to mimic the sensation that he's still on our chest.  It works most of the time - give it a try!

This. Its not such a bad thing right now either. It's different for every one but on my milestone sheet from our pedi it said at 6 months to start putting down drowsy. And here I was stressing about having to rock her to sleep!

  • Ellcore, I'm glad I read this.  I'd been stressing too about not being able to put DD in her crib while drowsy.

    This is good to know!

Sort of by accident he woke up when I put him in his crib for two of his naps today, and he just opened his eyes and then slowly fell back to sleep WITHOUT me. I was shocked but pleased! I'm hoping it translates to his MOTN wake up now too. Fingers crossed.
