Do you buy a little bigger than current size in shoes?

I want to get DS a new pair of shoes at Stride Rite but there aren't any nearby.  They have an online shoe size calculator which they say is very precise; I calculated DS to be an 8.5 with it.  Would you order an 8.5 or go up to a 9? Maybe even a 9.5?

I was able to go to the store to buy his last 2 pairs and I think they had us get them a little bigger, but can't remember.

  • I usually go up a half size when I order shoes online, and that's what they told me to do at the shoe store last week when I bought shoes for DD. if you go up too big they can have trouble walking.

  • i wouldn't buy more than half size up if they're meant to be worn now. i have so many shoes in a "too big" box b/c i thought her feet would grow faster than they have... :)

  • I do with my DS, not so much with my DD. My DS is well into 11s now so I got him a size 12 not too long ago. He is very quick to outgrow sizes though. My DD has been a 6 since the summer so I stick to sizes with her or only go a half larger.

  • Stride rite tells you to size up sneakers by half size anyway. When they measure lo they give a sneaker size and shoe size. But many of their shoes are sneaker like.

    I would size up half.
