Hcg and ovulation

Does anyone know can u ovulate with hcg in your system? In my mind I would say well no because once u are pregnant u can't get pregnant again (while u r pregnant)... I still had a small amount of hcg in Mondays blood draw post miscarriage Level was 21. My test today (home urine) has the slightest of slight positive but still there... My body though is showing signs of ovulation with the cm i have. i actually have ewcm which never happens... Is my body confused post miscarriage or can u ovulate with a small amount of hcg left. We are not going to ttc again until I get at least 1 af post miscarriage. But I am hoping that my body is going to normal.

I don't want to give you bad information, but I thought if your betas got below 5 you could ovulate.  I wouldn't think if you were still getting positive HPT's that you would though....  Are you charting at all?

CM can be all over the place after a loss, and it is not the best indicator of Ovulation. I'm pretty sure you can't ovulate with that much hcg in your system, so it is most likely just your body being messed up - as frustrating as that is. Are you temping?

I am temping but only started Tuesday (bled until Saturday, slept in Sunday and then forgot Monday) so my chart shows nothing yet. I started again just to get back into habit and swing of things. Thanks for your thoughts. It's so confusing post miscarriage on what's going on. If I had to guess I would say hcg can't be much more than 10. (I used wondfo)

Your body can do some pretty strange things after loss.  Your body could be trying to ovulate since your HCG is finally so low.  From what I understand, your body doesn't not ovulate until the HCG levels are below 5.  Charting can give you insight on whether you are actually ovulating already.

Is your doctor monitoring your numbers all way to zero or you supposed test down?

he is testing me once weekly until zero. He said even if its 4 he will test me again.. Since I had a 21 I thought my tests should be negative soon so since I have so many cheapies at home I figured why not. I have charted plenty in the past and just restarted so without that data I can't see anything with three days of temps yet.

 Thsnks again ladies. Sounds like my body is just confused.

I asked the very same question last month and sure enough, I ovulated when my HCG level was between 25 and 22.

Turns out a few ladies over on PGAL experienced the same thing.

I had a temperature dip and then rise.  Positive OPK and pain on my right side (like I usually get when ovulating).  I'm no expert, but I'm pretty darn sure that all adds up probable ovulation.

I am so glad that you made note of this because I think I may have ovulated at the same point and then I think I may have gotten my first period since my MC. My level was 17 a week ago and I started to bleed on Sat-Weds. I am countng today at CD6 and will use the OPK to check if I ovulate next week.

this is not based on scientific fact but the RE actually gives you a shot of HCG to induce ovulation so I am going to say yes

I'm pretty sure you can if your levels are low enough.  My OB was very concerned about me becoming pregnant again before my HCG levels had dropped below 5, and was adamant that we use some kind of barrier method (we did) until I got down below 5.   So I'm fairly certain, based on this, that it would have been POSSIBLE for me to get pregnant with HCG still in my system.   

As it is, I ovulated sometime between my HCG being 9 and <5 (between two blood draws a week apart), so I'm not sure what it was on the actual day that I ovulated.

Not 100% sure on this, but I can tell you that at my gyn appt last week, the dr said that by the looks of my ultrasound, I have ovulated and I should get my period in 2 weeks or so.  My dr said my hcg levels were in the "negative" range, meaning a HPT would be negative.  I took the blood test about 5 days before my appointment.  I don't know the exact number,  I should have asked the dr, but my head was in a jumble and didn't think to during the appt. 

So I know my hcg wasn't zero, but both the ultrasound technician and the dr said it looks like I ovulated. So I think the answer to your question is yes- you can ovulate with some residual hcg left over.  hth

According to my chart, I did O before my hCG was 0. I don't know exactly what it was that day but it wasn't super low, it was definitely over 5. Everyone's different, but I've seen other people say it's happened to them too.
