for those that restrict tv- do you lighten up when....

the kid is sick?  So on top of the cold weather that is trapping us inside- my girl has a cold and who knows what it will lead to- so no school tomorrow for her- running, faucet like nose, low grade temp, cough- she will be better home with me and not infecting others.

so I try to keep the tv time (nick Jr and disney jr) limited to under 1 hour a day- but I think I might have to stretch it this weekend with the looks of things!

Is it something you all do in desperate times? Bc thats how I feel!  My husband works all weekend and we have no plans on anyone coming over so its like I am exhausted from work and being up all night with her which I am sure will happen again tonight!

Re: for those that restrict tv- do you lighten up when....

  • Oh yes - those days when she and I are the worst, she gets to watch a lot of TV.  If I can hardly move (and I may have had the flu)... well, something has to keep her from crying mommymommymommy all day long.  I definitely consider it a desperate times move, but sometimes there are desperate times!

  • Oh yes. She's been sick for over a week and I started at the beginning of the week with it. I'm mortified at the amount of TV she's watched this week but there's no chance I'm all that useful to her. She's starting to perk up but I couldn't be more miserable.

  • OMG, yes!  DH, DD, and I all had the flu after Christmas and for about 3 days, all we did was lie in bed or on the couch all together and watch TV.  It was embarrassing how many Disney movies DD watched, but like you said, desperate times........
  • We try to limit to 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night. It's a totally different story when DS is sick or I'm sick. This m/s is kicking my butt and I'm ashamed to admit that DS has spent more than normal amounts of time in the morning watching TV. =/

  • I would if it helped!!!
  • Definitely. We normally don't turn the tv on until after dinner and then they get to watch one or two 20-minute shows, DS has been sick the past few days and he has watched a lot more than that!
  • Definitely lighten up.
  • Yes, with everyone else!  When you are all sick, if it keeps them quiet and relaxing, a big yes!  We normally don't watch much at all, but it has been a life saver the last week.   Sorry, hope everyon is starting to feel better!

  • I lighten up on my rules when she is sick. I feel bad for her just laying there all day, so we watch old Disney movies together. Lately I have lightened up too because we have a newborn in the house. I think as long it's only a one in awhile situation, it is okay.
