I read a thread here a moment ago about not taking the mini pill after 6 months...I looked into this bc I am on the mini pill but wanna maybe BF longer then 6 months. You dont have to stop taking it after 6 months. I know 2 people who took it for 18 months and 24 months respectively...

I am curious what lead whoever that was to think that - did a MD say that? I am confused - not pointing fingers, just wanna get some info on the topic

I think it may be less effective after 6 mos when baby might be eating foods and you may be bfing less but I am not sure...

My doc said it's pretty much 100% effective when taken at the same time each day and exclusively breastfeeding. However, if I started to back off of nursing, to come in and talk about other options or use condoms as back up. Where that balance of not nursing enough comes in is probably different in every person, which is why the 6 month thing is thrown out there, since that's when LO starts solids.

I should add its not the pill that stops working, its your own hormones changing from nursing less that causes this method to be not as effective.
