Success after IF

Prometrium

Hey everyone! Not sure if this is the right board for my question. After 1 year of TTC I got pregnant with my son, but had to take prometrium during the first tri. I've wondered since if that is part of the reason it took a year I'm in my early 30s. Anyway, I'm going to make an appointment with a new OB and we are hoping to TTC again and I am wondering if anyone knowledge of having to take prometrium with subsequent pregnancies. If that makes sense? I'm too afraid to TTC again without seeing an OB because of the progesterone issues. Thanks for any help!

Re: Prometrium

  • Do you know why you were on it last time? Did you have a miscarriage? Did your doc tell you that you had low progesterone levels?

I had to take endometrium--which I am thinking is something similar.  It was a progesterone suppository that I stuck up my hoo-ha a few times a day.

My suggestion would be to go get your progesterone levels checked 7 days post ovulation and see if it is low.  Your OB should be able to order this test for you. You will just need to make sure and determine through charting, temping, or OPK's when you O.  If it comes back low, then my guess is you might need the progesterone.

EDIT: I don't know why those words are underlined. I did not realize that I did that.

  • Oops forgot to include that! I was prescribed prometrium because my progesterone levels fell on the betas and I had brown spotting. The spotting stopped almost immediately. I guess my question, before I ask the OB, if I had issues with progesterone the first time around, I'm wondering if the falling progesterone will happen again. Just curious if anyone else might've dealt with something similar. Trying to prepare myself!

  • My guess (but I'm not a medical professional) is that if you had low progesterone in one pregnancy, there is a decent possibility that you would have it again.  I would think your OB could do a 7 day post ovulation test to determine if your progesterone in general is low.
