We have a running list of about 7 names right now for DD, and I listed them all to DS the other day. He said no to all of them except one, Eliza, which happens to be one of my two top picks (I swear I didn't influence him!). Now, he keeps calling the baby Eliza and says no about every other name if we ask him. It's pretty cute. (We did tell him, of course, that Mommy and Daddy get to decide when the time comes).
Anyway, my only issue with Eliza is nicknames. I don't love Liza on its own, and I don't prefer Ellie due to the popularity. Eli, the only other one I can think of, is all boy to me.
I'm not missing anything, am I? I know not all names need a nickname, and I realize that she may choose one on her own when she's older, which I'm fine with, but with three syllables I just feel like a nn is inevitable, but I don't really like the ones I thought of.
Re: nickname question
Or just E?
I think Eliza is hard to nn because it is already a nn. I'd just go with Eliza and see what happens organically.

I love Eliza.
I wouldn't worry about a nickname right now. You might end up calling her Sunshine Doodlebop or something and shorten it to Sunny. We never know what silly nicknames we'll come up with, it doesn't have to be a derivative of her first name.
Good points. E might be cute - people often call me T. Hadn't thought of that.
Otherwise, maybe we'll just abstain from nn derived from the name and see what happens.
I guess I'm just trying to figure out if the potential nns are enough to dissuade me from using the name altogether.
This.
We call my Josephine Josie most of the time, but I do also call her Monkey-- which obviously has nothing to do with her name.

My best friend's name is Erin, but when I met her, I was married to an Aaron. Hard to pronounce those two differently, especially when yelling :-) So I just called her E. And it's stuck to this day. So I gotta go with either let it happen organically, or just go with E (also, my cousin calls her little girl Elizabeth "E")
I think that's adorable that he loves the name so much and calls her that!! That story made me smile.
You could still use Elizabeth as the full fn and Eliza as a nn?
Both Liza and Ellie aren't THAT much shorter than Eliza - do you really think they would become nicknames for her? Just something I was thinking about.
Thanks! I couldn't believe he seemed to have such a strong preference for no apparent reason. He's very steadfast about it! Toddlers are bizarre
We're still considering Elizabeth for the full name and Eliza as a nn. And maybe Liza and Ellie wouldn't be definite nns - but I am liking the idea of just E.
