Babymoon to Cabo San Lucas...thoughts??

We are thinking about going to Cabo in mid March.  At that point I will be around 22-23 wks.  Just looking for advice, if anyone has been there while PG or been there at all...any warnings, etc?

  • Never been but I bet it's beautiful!!!  Only thing for me- and I'm a drinker, is I'd wanna go when I could drink :).  But if that doesn't bother you at all- then I think that sounds amazing!

  • Yeah, Cabo is a major party town.  We did stay in Los Cabos a little outside Cabo San Lucas and it is more of a resort area.  I suggest a lower key place.  And drink only bottled water and nothing with ice in it.

  • Love Cabo!  I was there in September of 2011 and I don't recall it being a party area at all.  Someone famous was in town doing something but if you don't want to be a part of that scene you can definitely avoid it.  We spent a lot of time hanging out in the resort pool (RIU Santa Fe), eating some amazing food, and sun bathing.  It was very relaxing and fun.  We did go into town once to do some shopping and then hit up The Corner Bar for a Mamarita, but since you're pregnant you'll probably want to skip that part.  :)

If you plan to stay at one of those large all-inclusive resorts my recommendation is to find one that has room service 24/7.  RIU Santa Fe did not and all of their food places shut down around 10.  If you wanted to eat after that you were limited to the fridge in the sport's club that consisted of hot dogs, deli meat sandwiches, nachos, and a small selection of fruit.  Not exactly what I want to munch on late at night when I've got the munchies, especially while pregnant.

As for water, if you are at a large resort don't sweat it.  You can get ice and drink whatever you want as most have their own water filtration systems.  You can ask to see what they use, but I've never been to a resort that didn't have a sophisticated system in place.  I've been to Mexico a dozen times and never once got sick from drinking something with ice at the resort.  Drinking tap water in town is not advised, however!

  • My DH and I just were there a few weeks ago for our babymoon. We stayed a little outside of the main town area and it was great! We went to a small grocery store to buy our own water bottles since we weren't staying at an all-inclusive. One other thing- you might want to bring some bug repellant because I ended up getting bitten 9 times by mosquitos/spiders! Not sure if any bug sprays pose risk while you're pregnant, but I sure wish I had taken some and looked into that before I went. Good luck!
  • DH and I were there a few years ago.  We loved it!  We stayed in Cabo San Lucas and could walk into town (via the beach) in about 30 minutes.  It was so nice to walk to dinner every night.  If you go, check out Edith's for dinner.  It doesn't look like much but the food and atmosphere are amazing!  Take a sunset cruise if you can.  We went in January and were able to see whales.  It's a beautiful place!

  • We just got back from Cabo.  I am 27 weeks.  It is a nice place to go and relax.  Definitely stay in a resort outside of the city.  The city is pretty crowded and touristy. Not my speed even if I was not pregnant.

Also, I echo the PP who said to go to Edith's.  It is awesome.

  • I haven't been, and we thought about going for our babymoon. We ended up deciding against it since there is a strong risk of me getting sick. I've gotten sick in Mexico before and it's no fun. You can be super careful, but all it takes is some restaurant washing their vegetables wrong, or a little slip up when brushing my teeth, and I could get really sick.

  • We just got back from Puerto Vallarta -- my doctor just told me to be careful about drinking water so we loaded up on bottled water at the grocery store in town.  We also ate at places that were highly rated at TripAdvisor except for some stops for my DH who wanted authentic food from street vendors (I didn't have any -- just wanted to be on the safe side).  Everything was great; no issues at all!  The only complaint I have was not putting on bug spray at the beach -- I had no idea that sand fleas existed (they are like mosquitos but the bites are uglier!)

  • We're going to Mexico mid march too.  It would be okay normally but Im worried that its going to be spring break time and  be packed
