Essential Oils in Humidifier?

Hello!  I'm new to the "crunchy" scene and I hope this is an appropriate community in which to post this but DS (6 mos) has a little cold (no fever and he seems fine except for a runny/stuffy nose and cough) and I'm looking up homeopathic remedies.  I've seen the basics - turning on the shower and sitting in the bathroom with him, saline, etc - but I also saw using Eucolyptus oil and maybe basil oil?  Would I put a couple drops in his humidifier?  Can I just use my run-of-the-mill Vick's humidifier or will the oils mess it up?  Thanks!

I'm brand-spankin'-new to all this, so sorry if that's a really basic question.  LOL!  Thanks!

Re: Essential Oils in Humidifier?

  • I don'n think is a good idea of mixing the vick's products with any other essential oil,the humidifier with the vick's should be fine, but it you want to try the eucalyptus oil you can get one of those little things like ceramic containers that you put some water and the essential oil,and you put a candle,(sorry I forget what's the name for this things).

  • I think most people use diffusers or nebulizers. You could ask the moderators on the "raising natural kids" fb page to post the question for you. You will get a ton of responses.

  • I use eucalyptus oil in the bath and that clears my LO and me at the same time. Only use a few drops just enough to smell it.
  • Hi!

A high quality essential oil will ruin your run of the mill humidifier. You can put a drop in the humidifier to help clear your baby up, or put a drop of eucalyptus or peppermint on a washcloth next to baby so lo can smell it to clear stuffiness. Full disclosure i do sell essential oils, but i really just love to help! I'd be happy to answer any further questions you may have, feel free to email me at  livepurely1@gmail.com.
