Lurker with a question...Help! xpost from Parenting

So, my little guy's face is really, really dry. Everytime I put lotion on it he screams terribly. All I can think is that it must be stinging him. Does anyone have a suggestion for something I can put on it that won't be so painful?

I've tried to stay away from Johnson's because I feel like the fragance in all of those lotions would hurt worse. I'm contemplating putting Desitin or Boudroux's (97% certain I did not spell that correctly) Butt Paste on it but I'm not sure that'll help.

Any advice is appreciated!

  • Aquaphor or Vaseline.

  • Try aquaphor. It's not perfumey so it won't sting lo's face. You can also try eucerin. Either one will work.

  • You can also try cetaphil...that was recommended to us by our pedi. We were told that you need to use a moisturizer (like cetaphil or eucerin), because aquaphor, which we had been using, is really just a barrier cream--it doesn't actually provide any moisture to the skin. It's good for putting on over the moisturizer tho to protect raw patches.

  • That's why I haven't used the Desitin, I knew it was supposed to block out moisture so I figured it wouldn't be very helpful.

I'm hearing Lanolin from the parenting board.  I have a lot of Lansinoh cream that I never used because BF'ing didn't work out....would you put nipple cream on your kids face?

This is great advice, and exactly what our pedi suggested with DS1.  We also would use a little 0.5% hyrdocortizone when he'd get really bad.

Yes.  Lanolin can be left on your nipples while you breastfeed so it already gets on their face and in their mouth.  I forgot about this.

  • My baby has very dry and flakey cheeks, I use Live Clean Baby. I get it at Walgreens, you can get coupons from the company's website.

I was going to suggest the lanolin...when my DD fell on the steps and got a bad rug burn I used the lanolin...but it was too funny hearing my toddler say "are you going to put nipple cream on my nose"...it worked great though!

  • We use SebaMed products and love them. They are ph neutral to match the skin but more importantly our sensitive skinned baby's skin is no longer dry... We have desalinated water where we live so it is wretched on anyone's skin. We also had a prescription moisturizer for a little bit usu prescribed to help with psoriasis because her face was so tender.
