  • Your numbers look great! I did IVF when I was 36 and had success.

After that I got pregnant on my own and miscarried, got pregnant using clomid and miscarried, got pregnant with IUI and had a second son and then, at age 40 got pregnant on my own again and had a second daughter.  All my numbers would have been quite a bit lower than yours and my FSH higher.  My husband has 0% morphology with borderline count and motility so that was an issue as well.  Not sure how we got so lucky to overcome all that.

I hope things go really well and just remember, it only takes one good egg.  Be sure to update us.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I turn 40 in just under 5 weeks and am 10.5 weeks pregnant from my second IVF (was successful with IVF #1 at 38.5 y.o.).  I think your odds are still pretty good until up to 42.  After that, egg quantity and quality tend to be a big issue for most.  Your numbers look really good for your age, too.  In fact, your FSH is lower than mine was this time!  Good luck to you!

ETA: I just saw you posted this a week ago.  If you're still checking this thread, I'd love to hear an update on how everything went with your ER and ET.

  • thanks so much ladies---youre encouragement helps So much! This first IVF looks like its a no-go....I broke down a POAS today at 10dp3dt, and it was a BFN on a dollar store cheapie...beta isnt until Saturday. I feel discouraged bc they did ISCI and AH...and I had 3 8 cell decent looking eggs.Trying to keep positive though. :-)

Congrats to everyone of "AMA" (hate that) who beat the odds!!

  • I know I'm chiming in late but I wanted to tell you to stay positive, there are a lot of over 40 IVF successes! I turned 42 in December and am currently 31 weeks pregnant with twins. My doctor transferred 4 embryos because of my age and 2 stuck! We also did ICSI and AH. I also have a friend who was 44 and got pregnant through IVF. It can happen so stay strong!!
  • I am 46, did Ivf on Jan 22 with a frozen donor egg fertilized with my Hubby's sperm and we are 8 weeks pregnant today! It can happen!!!
  • @annluvsjerry congrats! I will be 46 in May and so worried about being an "older" mom if this cycle works!! I don't know too many pp on the boards my age. Few of the ladies are around 43. Good luck to you!!

  • Sorry about the BFN.  I've had two healthy kids in my 40s, both conceived through IVF (one stim cycle, two FETs three years apart).  It can happen, though we know we were lucky. Hugs and best of luck to you.
  • I'm 10 weeks and i will be 41 tomorrow !!! It can happen !!! Good luck!!
  • Hello;

I just finished my first cycle of IVF and thought I would share my numbers, as I've spent many hours reading others stories/numbers and have found it informative and comforting.

    40 years old

    Eggs retrieved :16
    Mature eggs : 14
    Fertilized eggs :11
Day 3: 8  early stage embryos
    2 x 12 cell Grade A  2 x 8 cell Grade A  1 x 6 cell Grade A 1 x 5 cell Grade A  2 x 5 cell quality 2/3
Day 5 : first update 3 going to PGD 4 others slower but could develop into blastocyst by day 6
Day 5: second update a few hours later 5 bio'ed and 5 frozen  3 others might make it to day 6

We still need a surrogate because I had a hysterectomy a year ago -- but happy that the IVF was successful. Step one.
This has exceeded our expectation and will be celebrating with some bubbles tonight.
Keep the faith ladies you can do it!
  • Hi, Sorry to hear about your bfn. But don't give up. I turned 40 in September and gave birth to my first baby in October. Your numbers look better than mine, and you got a good number of embryos! You may want to ask your doctor about embryo banking and cgh testing. That is what finally worked for us. Unfortunately for us "AMA" ladies, chromosome abnormalities are often the cause of IVF failures and early miscarriages. We had 3 chemical pregnancies before our successful cycle. We did 3 rounds of retrievals and I only had two embryos that made it to day 5 for testing. They were biopsied and frozen. Of the two, one was a trisomy but one was a healthy girl embryo, who is now a six week old sleeping in my lap as I write. The benefit of the CGH testing is that you don't waste time, money and heartache transferring embryos that look healthy but may turn out to be abnormal. Going this route takes patience because you have to wait a few cycles to bank embryos, then test, then prepare for a frozen transfer. For us, it was the right way to go. Best of luck to you!

Me:38 - TTC for 3+years - Multiple failed IUIs (w/clomid, femara, injectibles - all BFNs) IVF #1 - Jan 2012, CP -IVF#2 March 2012, CP - Went back to IUIs all summer. Multi-Cycle Egg banking for FET. Egg retrieval #1 October, 2 frosties. Retrieval#2 January 2013. 6 eggs banked - waiting to be fertilized in March, FET March! Zero eggs survived thaw process - FET Cancelled. New RE - Now banking Embryos for PGS - July ER- 3 eggs retrieved, 3 fertilized, 1 genetically normal embryo! FET - Feb. 2014, BFP - Mar. 2014, EDD 11/6/14 It's a GIRL!
