I know a Hewitt, rather well. It's just okay, I'm indifferent probably because I've heard it for years. I can give you a million nicknames I've called him.
Neither name is my style. Dale is an old man name that I don't care for, so I would pair it with a different type of name. For example, my nephew's name is Matthew Dale and I think it sounds fine.
