no more lounging on my back for me :(

Apparently my uterus has hit the size where I can no longer lay on my back. I was lounging on the couch (mostly laying down but propped up a bit) watching TV and got really woozy and started seeing spots, so I rolled over onto my side and it got better.

I'm kinda sad as that's my default watching TV position because it's the only way that doesn't make my back spasm, but I guess I'll have to figure something else out!

Anyone else hit that point yet?  Have you figured out something more comfy?

  • No. Not yet. But I would lay in my back throughout pregnancy with DD and just put a pillow behind me. How far are you?

  • I could be mistaken, but isn't it possible that something like that is just related to low blood pressure?

ETA: I've had a few bouts of feeling woozy while being on my back, but didn't attribute it to the pressure from my uterus yet. I figured it was just a normal dizzy spell.

  • You won't be comfortable again until you deliver. I seriously remember laying on the delivery table while the dr stitched up my 3rd degree tear thinking, damn, I feel so much better!

  • You just need a small pillow for under your hips/ low back. In school I got to assist in a few csections and we would place a roll under the hip to alleviate the pressure on the artery.   Good luck!

    Good to know, thanks!

and to answer other questions: I'm 12 and a half weeks, but I have a uterus that's tilted towards my back so it's probably pushing on the artery a little sooner than for most.

Yep, same here. I couldn't believe how I instantly felt better!

I am also suspicious of it being that your uterus is that big already, though. Still, don't lay on your back if it isn't comfy :

  • If I go from lying to standing too quickly, I almost pass out. It has zero to do with my uterus and everything to do with increasing blood volume and lower blood pressure. I suspect you're in the same boat, but feel free to make yourself less comfortable for no particular reason.
