Anyone travel with a lap "infant"? My "infant" is going to be 23 months (just inside the range for free travel, has having an older child in your lap worked or was it just a PIA?
I did a three-hour with a squirrely almost 2 year old but we had an open seat next to us on every flight. We always flew Sun Country for this reason- they reserve the last row of each flight for minors traveling alone. In each of my flights we lucked out and there were never any minors flying alone so we asked to move back there. If I had to have my DS on my lap for 3 hours I don't think it would have worked unless he was sleeping. Granted, I probably would have tried because I'm too cheap to buy him a seat! (We haven't flown since he turned 2). If I ended up in a middle seat or something I seriously would have been in the circles of hell. And with security issues now the flight attendants don't look kindly to kindof wandering the aisle (as I was quickly informed on the flight).
We just traveled with DS (25 months) and I was so glad I had the car seat. It made him think he couldn't get out just like in the car. Even when we had empty seats next to us I didn't let him out. Our longest flight was just shy of 2 hours. If it'd been longer I might have let him stretch but he wouldn't have sat happily on my lap for the duration.
Re: One more travel question...
Omg no. I would not do that.
