anyone watch Signing Time?

Nora and I both sign several words thanks to their program. Does anyone else watch signing time? We also have some books and flash cards. I feel like I should take a course to better teach her signs, so maybe we can fully communicate in sign as well as speak in the future.

Re: anyone watch Signing Time?

  • Love Signing Time so much that we support the Signing Time foundation every year. DC1didn't talk appreciably until he was 3, and even then he still needed signs when he got stuck or frustrated. We learned SO much as a family by watching the shows, and we were able to easily fit it into our lives, that DC2 was able to pick up many signs without the shows. (He learned more from the show though :) )
  • Reese--absolutely LOVES baby signing time. It is one of the only things that focuses her attention for that long. She has learned so many signs from it.

  • My niece loved that sh!t when she was younger.

And it was a catchy tune.

  • We love signing time over here too.

For your purposes, the signing times videos should be enough signing vocabulary unless you are planning on having whole conversations in ASL. It is a complete language and has a very different sentence structure than spoken english. It is a beautiful language and fun to learn!

If you want to take a class, look for those offered by your local school for the deaf or hearing & speech agency. I have also seen them taught by county rec departments. Classes taught at community colleges and universities are great too, but they tend to be more expensive. Happy Signing!
